When Rock n Roll Marathon Series first came to Liverpool almost 4 years ago I used to get asked all the time what medals people could earn and how. I got asked so many times that I decided to just write it all down for everyone on my blog and so Medal Watch was born.
At the 2017 race weekend there’s a possible 6 medals for the two days with a further three medals if you run one or more additional Rock n Roll Race weekends in the year.
So here we go.
1 Half Marathon/Marathon medal – Sunday 28th May – Sadly you can’t do both but if you do either of these two races you’ll get yourself a very err bright 60’s inspired piece of bling. Orange for the half and purple for the full.
2 5k – Saturday 27th May – For the 5k on the morning before the Half/Full you’ll get this little black number that glows in the dark.
3 Mile fun run – Sunday 28th May – The race starts at 1pm so if you are running the half (9am start) or are a fast marathon runner (starts at 10am) then you can also complete the mile fun run. This is my favourite medal for the race weekend this year.
4 Encore – If you ran the half/full in 2016 and run it again in 2017 then you’ll get this medal (with the lady on it who freaks me out a little). You don’t have to do anything to get it other than register for the race with the same details as last year and then complete the race.
5 Remix Challenge – The spinning plec medals where introduced last year but we’ve gone from electric to acoustic. These are pretty amazing medals and you can get yours by completing the 5k plus any distance on the Sunday. You don’t have to do anything to get it other than register for both races with the same details as last year and then complete the races.
6 Run, Rock, and Raise – The image of this medal hasn’t been released yet but if you run the half/full for one of the officially listed charities then you’ll be rewarded with this extra medal. You need to register with the charity through the Rock n Roll Liverpool website.
And if you’ve already completed another Rock n Roll Series weekend
7 Double Beat Heavy Medal – If you complete two or more Rock n Roll Marathon series half/marathons in the year then you qualify for Double Beat medals. For each additional race ypu do you get another medal so for two race you get Double Beat, three gets you Rock Trio and so on until you get to the Gold Record for ten races in a year. 15 gets you into the Hall of Fame and a massive medal. This is the one occasion where you do need to register separately for the medal and you need to register every calendar year. You can register by clicking here. This medals are also usually posted to you a month or so after the event.
8 World Rocker – Complete any Rock n Roll half/full in two different countries to get a spinning world. The new medal design for 2017 is pretty awesome. You don’t have to do anything to get it other than register for both races with the same details and then complete the races.
9 Marathon Challenge – A new medal for 2017, you need to complete 3 Rock n Roll Series marathons in the calendar year in order to get this amazing Greek inspired bling. You don’t have to do anything to get it other than register for all races with the same details.

Just after posting this guide Rock n Roll Liverpool shared an image of the new Charity medal (medal no 6 in the guide) which has actually had a name change to ‘Heart of Rock n Roll’. It’s the same medal across all Rock n Roll races this year and you can find more details of how to get it here.
